North Korea's First Nuclear Weapon Test |
|
North Korea successfully tested its first
nuclear bomb on 9-Oct-06. See the Threat Assessments/ Forecasts on: 8-Oct-06 - Situation before and immediately after North Korea announced on 3-Oct-06 its intention to test a nuclear weapon 11-Oct-06 - Situation immediately after the nuclear test on 9-Oct-06 12-Oct-06 - Situation two days after the test. 15-Oct-06 - Situation on 13-Oct-06 when the U.N. appointed Ban Ki-moon of the Republic of Korea Secretary-General; and on 14-Oct-06 when the U.N. Security Council imposed sanctions on the DPRK. 17-Oct-06 - Evidence on 16-Oct-06 of a decrease in the security threat from the DPRK test. 19-Oct-06 - Evidence on 18-Oct-06 of both a decrease in the security threat from the DPRK test and a decrease in the volatility of the threat. The Threat Assessment charts show clearly that the announcement on 3-Oct-06 did not increase the Very High Destructive Potential entailed in Economic Uncertainty, which swelled after Pope Benedict's lecture on faith and reason at Regensburg. However, the nuclear test did increase both (1) the Propitiousness for Terrorism, and (2) the intensity of the CODE RED terrorism Alert. However, the effect was immediate, initially volatile, and non persistent. |
