The Haiti Earthquake
Global State of Mind Intellection and Affects Pre/Post the Disastrous Earthquake of January 12, 2010
Anatomy of a Disaster

Haiti suffered a disastrous magnitude 7.0 earthquake on 12-Jan10 at 21:53:10 UTC.1 The death toll is estimated to be in the range from 100,000 to 200,000.2-3 The destruction is "extreme."4 About 40,000 people have been buried in mass graves.3 Security is a big problem: Haitians are getting angry at the slow flow of help, and anger is turning to violence.3 Haiti's population is estimated at 10,033,000 (95% black and 5% mulatto and white).5 Haiti, "France’s most valuable colonial possession" in the 18th century, is "the only nation ever born of a slave revolt."6 The use of violence and usury to subjugate Haitians is documented in Paul Farmer's Who removed Aristide? in the London Review of Books.

The bailout of the U.S. financial system amounted to $700 billion; the people's money was used to save that financial system (to purchase distressed assets and make capital injections in banks).7 The collapse of the U.S. financial system was largely the result of the excesses of that financial system.8 The magnitude 7 earthquake was not caused by the Haitians. It will be revealing to see what "help" the Haitians get.

This Report provides empirical data quantifying people's Global State of Mind Pre/Post Haiti's earthquake.

Global State of Mind is measured by the Macroknow Intellectual Intelligence (MI2) system. MI2 provides two sets of MIND Indexes:

Three sets of time periods are compared:

Pre/Post Earthquake Time Periods Pre Post
12-Jan-10 (00:00 AM PT) ± 1 Day Pre 1 Post 1
12-Jan-10 (00:00 AM PT) ± 7 Days Pre 7 Post 7
12-Jan-10 (00:00 AM PT) ± 30 Days Pre 30 Post 30

The 30-day pre/post analysis will be published as soon as it is available.

The analysis provides deep insights into the reflexive dynamic interplay between:

The interplay between people's Intellection flow and the correlated chains of world events, including major financial events, is displayed in STREAM OF THOUGHT 2010.

KEY FINDINGS

The immediate reaction to Haiti's disastrous earthquake was as follows:

  • Global Awareness shifted from awareness of MONEY to awareness of DEBT and RELIGION.
  • The focus of Global Attention shifted from FREEDOM, MONEY, and TECHNOLOGY to BANKERS.

Changes in people's global State of Mind during the 7-day time periods pre/post Haiti's disastrous earthquake include (see tables below):

INTELLECTION

  • Global Awareness of RELIGION soared from 42.9% to 85.7%.
  • Global Awareness of DEBT remained unchanged at 28.6%.
  • Global Attention Focused on DECEIT plummeted from 57.1% to 14.3%.
  • Global Attention Focused on Arithmetic (Calculative Thinking) remained constant at 28.6%.
  • Global Attention Focused on SCIENCE increased from 28.6% to 42.9%.

AFFECT

  • While ANGER decreased from 66.7% to 33.3%, HOSTILITY worldwide soared from 6.7% to 57.1%.
  • Global Feelings of ENTANGLEMENT (mostly by banks and the law) fell from 40% to 28.6%.
  • Global Feelings of SATISFACTION tumbled from 33.3% to 0.0%.
  • Global Feelings of PAIN soared from 60% to 100%.

IRRATIONALITY

  • Ironically, IRRATIONAL GLOOM (6.7%) was replaced by IRRATIONAL EXUBERANCE (33.3%).

POLITICAL ECONOMY

  • The ghastly consequences of greedy, violent, cruel, and usurious colonialism continue to beset the world.
  • The benefits of science and engineering do not accrue to the poor.
  • Governments continue to be ill organized and ill prepared to respond to catastrophes (Tsunami, 26-Dec-04; Hurricane Katrina, Aug-05; Haiti, 12-Jan-10).
  • Economic predators still lurk around the corner.
